FREE IMPORT COST CALCULATOR

How much does it cost to import a car from Germany?
Work it out before you buy.

Registration tax, transport, DGT fees and ITP where it applies: what it costs to bring a car to Spain from Germany or another EU country, with the same calculation engine Rechnia uses. Free and without signing up.

The car's details

Where it is registered: the ITP and the registration tax surcharge depend on it.

Those on the technical data sheet or the certificate of conformity (COC). They set the registration tax rate.

Optional. The average new-model price in the Spanish Tax Agency tables (Order HAC/1501/2025). Above 120 g/km, the registration tax cannot be calculated without it.

WHAT IT COUNTS AND WHAT IT DOESN'T

An honest estimate,
with what is missing in plain sight.

01

What it includes

  • The purchase price you enter.
  • Transport: by lorry, with the indicative per-kilometre rate; driving it, fuel, tolls from Germany and temporary green plates.
  • The registration tax (IEDMT), based on CO₂ emissions and the Tax Agency table value with its age coefficient.
  • The ITP where it applies: when buying from a private seller, in Spain or in another EU country.
  • The DGT fee: registering an imported car or, for a purchase in Spain, the change of ownership.
02

What it does not include

  • The import roadworthiness test (ITV) and the reduced technical data sheet: shown separately, as a range.
  • The agency's fees, insurance and getting the car ready.
  • VAT on a car that is new for tax purposes (under 6 months or under 6,000 km).
  • The town council's road tax and, in Catalonia, the annual tax on CO₂ emissions.
  • Cars from outside the EU, which go through customs.
03

It is indicative

The figures come from the same calculation engine Rechnia uses inside. They are an estimate to decide before buying, not a tax assessment: what is paid is set by the Tax Agency with the car's details, and transport by your carrier's quote.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Importing a car from Germany,
what people ask.

01

What taxes are paid when importing a car from Germany to Spain?

If it is used and you buy it from a business invoicing under the margin scheme (REBU), the registration tax (IEDMT, form 576) and the DGT registration fee. If you buy it from a private seller, the ITP of your community as well. If it is new for tax purposes (under 6 months or under 6,000 km), 21% VAT in Spain.

02

How is the registration tax on an imported used car calculated?

It starts from the average new-model price in the Spanish Tax Agency tables, multiplied by the age coefficient, which goes by months since first registration. VAT and the tax itself are taken out of that value, and the rate for the CO₂ emissions is applied to the result: 0% up to 120 g/km; 4.75% up to 160 g/km; 9.75% up to 200 g/km; 14.75% above 200 g/km.

03

How much does it cost to bring a car from Germany by lorry?

It depends on the kilometres. The calculator uses Rechnia's indicative rate: €100.00 per car plus a per-kilometre price that falls with distance (€0.95/km up to 500 km; €0.60/km up to 1,200 km; €0.32/km above 1,200 km), applied to the whole trip. Your carrier will give you their price; in Rechnia you can save their rate and it is used instead.

04

Is what I type into the calculator stored?

No. The calculation runs in your browser: what you type is not sent to Rechnia or anyone else, and it is not stored.
